Whenever I watch Japanese TV programming, something often comes to mind; a pattern of how the mainstream media persist on preserving the Japanese audience with recycled concepts that seem to renew some similar allure that forevers keeps me glued to my computer monitor. Perhaps it could be the exact shows that would have any ordinary American or Westerner lost in translation and to see the plain similarities foster as exempt from the rest of world and looked over as simply an uncanny sub-culture. I never really thought that Japanese TV would be such a bore; especially during the day-time, where live shows present the talents of guess show host laughing at jokes that are dull and sitting around doing absolutely nothing! why would they have these guys on the show anyway? What do they put in the show to make it more entertaining?I pose the question:where did Japanese TV went sour, bad rotten? where did it lose it's mass majority to a video game system which was The Nintendo Wii? I will dig deeper into this issue and explain where I thought it went wrong in a reasonable and non bias way. First let's analyze Japanese TV in General. Most of the shows you are likely to see while in Japan are usually the variety or cooking and drama shows. If you take the variety shows out of the deck, then wouldn't there be a better enhancement in watching someone cook and eat in front of you? no, absolutely not. Variety shows are boring, not because I can't really understand what they're talking about, but it is usually the people involved in those television shows. Go ahead and flip a few channels before leaving to tour Tokyo, what do you notice, well if you were Japanese or have stayed in Japan for a while, you start to realize that on almost every other channel you watch, there are the same type of personalities that were on a certain drama or variety show. Why is this? what sense does it make? I"M TIRED OF IT!!!!!!!!!! Why can't we see different people on different TV stations like those of the American Entertainment system. If we seen the same guess on Montel and Oprea or Jerry Springer, wouldn't think that perhaps maybe the shows are nothing mere to watching than watching repeats of one Reading Rainbow episode 65 times??? Is it because the Japanese enjoy seeing the same damn people on every show for everything and would like to see how the personalities react on" this particular show" compared to " that particular show"? This is one of the things I believe drive most people who live in Japan for awhile, crazy. Another aspect of this sub-culture is the ethical reactions placed on the shows to empathize emotion. Most often will you see a small sub frames whenever watching a variety show of the personalties" reactions while watching the same exact thing you watch which are usually segments stories or brief skits. Along watching this, you start to think about it and you wonder why they choose to do this? Because unlike the more western way of thinking, The Japanese tend to like to see other people, mostly celebrities, cry their eyes out or react in a shocking or questing way to the very thing they could be observing. This get's annoying and takes the fun out of the actual show, but then I can''t believe there use to be a time where I thought this was really cool to see on American Television and how I wished we had this sort of big brother system where we could see the emotions on the face of a celebrity. But for the most part, the commercials are always an entertain, especially the ones with foreign actors marketing products they are never going to use( Japanders) The commerial are more fun to watch than eating a big mac at the library. Of course that didn't make any sense, but that's about all I really look forward to while watching the TV. Something about seeing a Hillary Duff Sing Micky Mouse for Disney's telephone service amuses me. Most Japanders do this, maybe if a Japanese actor gets famous, we could do the same for our commercials; or are we already doing this for The Nintendo Wii? And The products keep you wondering if your not fluent in Japanese. In any event, most of the commercials are exactly like those from America, because they are basically advertising an international product.Pretty silly if you ask me. Most of the J drama"S are good if you give it some time, at least you kind of get to see how the Japanese culture is like somewhat as you try to pick up the Japanese.funny thing might be; this could be the only thing that's actually entertaining to watch in japan solely because you have the option of one to two things: Anime, J drama or something else that's blizzard but worth watching. Anime has many categories and range form varies age groups, while J drama has unique shows that have been recycled for the viewer to enjoy.....not really, just the same old thing, not really originality but hence something to do other than drink beer with your friends or interact with family members. The Sports sense is like any other sports in the world if you could imaging, nothing to amazing, same international format as the rest of the world. I don't have say on this, but you would have to see for yourself. Most of you out there probably don't have no clue what I'm talking about so, I'll give you the deal: there is a website entitled sopcast.com. From thee you can download the application and you two can enjoy, or observe real Japanese TV for yourself. Maybe you'll like it, maybe you will dislike it, but if your a Japanese TV buff, you will defiantly enjoy it. Overall, I believe Japanese TV can be interesting however while providing limited entertainment for those who would otherwise thought to craze the Asian broadcasting industry. For those who wannabe Japanese TV fan, after awhile prepare to be disappointed and to actually go back to watching the same exact thing you watch on American TV, not to mention the terrible movies they show on Saturdays and Fridays. Well I hope this may guide you to how Japanese TV is, This is Kairosan and God bless you.
